These numbers amount to a tremendous contribution to the community. In 2021 we logged 7,322.5 Volunteer Service hours despite having so many projects and activities curtailed by the pandemic. We come from 19 communities: Bertram, Buchanan Dam, Burnet, Cottonwood Shores, Fort Hood, Highland Haven, Horseshoe Bay, Johnson City, Kempner, Kingsland, Lago Vista, Lampasas, Leander, Lometa, Marble Falls, Meadowlakes, New Salem, Spicewood, and Sunrise Beach. While most of our members live in Burnet and Llano Counties, we also have members who live in surrounding counties. HLMGA has more than 120 members and associate members, some of whom have been active in its work for almost two decades. Volunteer efforts include hands-on work, presentations, writing of articles and administrative work with others who also care about plants, water conservation, and protecting the environment. Master Gardeners love to share the knowledge they’ve acquired, and they put it to practical use. Existing members re-certify every year by attending continuing education classes and logging volunteer hours through various projects and activities." The foundation of the association is its service to the community. This rigorous program provides a comprehensive background in horticultural principles and practices with an emphasis on conservation and sustainability. In 2010, HLMGA members also helped bring back the Burnet County Area Fair, and they remain dedicated to the Fair’s growth and continued success.Įach spring, HLMGA offers a 40 hour educational program of lectures, workshops, and field trips for those interested in becoming a Certified Master Gardener. Some of the largest projects include the Burnet Farmers and Crafts Market, The Garden at Trinity Episcopal Church in Marble Falls, the Burnet Middle School Greenhouse Project, the Kings Garden in Kingsland, and the Hill Country Lawn and Garden Show, which will mark its 22nd year in 2022. ![]() We also sponsor volunteer service projects in the Highland Lakes area. Throughout the year, in cooperation with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, the HLMGA sponsors horticultural education programs throughout the adjacent counties.
